P3S21 - Deep Dive Session for New Method for Calculating pH Neutralizations

Recorded On: 03/08/2021

Member: $20.00
Non-Member: $30.00

SWRCB Waste Water CEUs: 0.6

CWEA Contact Hours: 0.6 contact hours towards CWEA's Collection System Maintenance, Environmental Compliance Inspector and Laboratory Analyst certifications.

This Deep Dive expands upon the presentation "New method for calculating pH neutralizations." By diving deeper into pH, participants will learn to complete more complex pH calculations involving densities and weights. More detail will be provided on the mathematics of the calculations and on the use of calculators.

Learning Objectives:
Relate the methods to solutions of other numerical calculations, such as mass loading, surveillance monitoring, and chemical dilutions.
Solve neutralization problems of increased difficulty, including those involving solution densities.
Execute, by hand and by using a calculator, the solution of more-complex neutralization reactions.

Kent O. McIntosh

Senior Industrial-waste Inspector (RETIRED)

Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts (RETIRED)

Kent McIntosh (now retired) worked for the L.A. County Sanitation Districts for 31 years, ending his career as a senior industrial-waste inspector. Kent has degrees in biology, civil engineering, and applied mathematics, and he has CWEA certifications as an Environmental Compliance Inspector (Grade 4) and as an Industrial Waste Treatment Plant Operator (Grade 1). He has taught and tutored mathematics, physics, and chemistry at high-school and college levels. Kent has presented before at CWEA conferences, including presentations on novel methods of making calculations often encountered by inspectors (and others), especially on certification tests. This is his first presentation extending those concepts to calculations involving pH and neutralization.

Registrants who view the live webinar to see the slides and hear the audio and then enter the correct attention check code (directions below) will receive .6 contact hours towards CWEA's Collection System Maintenance, Environmental Compliance Inspector and Laboratory Analyst certifications..

Check code that will be displayed during the webinar in the top left or right corner of the presentation for approximately 90 seconds.  Please enter this code in the Attention Check Code component under the "Contents" tab.

Please note, all user activity of CWEA certification holders on the Online Wastewater Education Network is subject to the CWEA Code of Ethics standards for professional conduct and ethics. Certification holders should receive credit for a training only once within the same contact hour period. Any attempt to undermine the certification process may be subject to ethics procedures and possible sanctions. It is not possible to receive contact hours for both attending the live webinar and viewing the recording.

Once you have entered the correct attendance check code, you will be able to create and download an electronic "Certificate of Completion" under the "Contents" tab.
